Creating FWD

WE ARE CREATING FWD BY DESIGNING RESPONSIBLY

Our vision: We will increase the use of more sustainable materials year-on-year until all our products are circular by design.

The beginning of the design phase, and in particular the materials that we choose, is where we at BESTSELLER can best influence the environmental impact of our products. Designing responsibly for us means preferring fibres and materials that have a lower environmental impact. It also refers to an innovative design philosophy and approach. Circularity in materials has great benefits, from reducing waste to restoring and regenerating ecosystems that produce natural fibres, also through digitalising our design approach, we can minimise waste from the very start of the creative process.

Creating FWD is about designing clothes that use low-impact materials and always looking to go further, identifying and applying innovative new fibres until everything we create is made exclusively using sustainable materials.

Fashion FWD with sustainable material choices

Our clothes are made from a range of natural and man-made fibres that go through many processes to become textiles that can be cut and sewn into clothing. We can significantly reduce the scale of water, energy and chemical use by increasing the traceability of our textile supply chains, choosing more sustainable options where we can, and continuously work to explore innovative new materials.

Fashion FWD sets our overall ambition on sustainable materials and leverages our collective sourcing strength. It provides a framework for BESTSELLER brands to choose and pursue materials that fit with their brand DNA and consumer preferences.

Turning waste into polyester

Polyester is a versatile and low maintenance synthetic fibre suitable for many fashion items, but its production is energy-intensive and not biodegradable. We can reduce polyester’s impact by increasing our use of recycled polyester made from waste products such as plastic bottles. By 2025, we want at least half of our polyester to be recycled or from more sustainable options.

Working towards 100% more sustainable cotton

Cotton is natural and renewable, and it is one of our most widely used fibres, while its production also supports millions of livelihoods around the world. However, conventional cotton growing can have a considerable impact on the environment. We are working to source only more sustainable alternatives, including cotton from the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), organic and recycled options.
