AT THE HEART OF THE MATTER
From students to square-dancers, everyone is predicted to benefit from the new jewel in Ikast’s crown.
A new multipurpose activity and function centre will be opened in the Danish town of Ikast on Saturday thanks to the support of BESTSELLER.
Eye-catching in its sustainable heat-treated pine cladding, the 3,600 m2 building – which is called Hjertet (‘The Heart’ in Danish) – is expected to act as a physical link between International School Ikast-Brande (ISIB) and the local community.
BESTSELLER was critical in the development of ISIB and remains a key partner, and that link led to HEARTLAND committing funds towards Hjertet’s total construction cost.
Thanks to its long history with ISIB and the Ikast-Brande Municipality, BESTSELLER was perfectly placed to facilitate the formation of Hjertet after hearing that both were separately preparing to construct new facilities.
Hjertet was designed by the architecture company C.F. Møller, which also designed BESTSELLER’s Aarhus office and LCN, and consists of numerous versatile spaces that can be combined or separated to suit almost any activity.
Part of Hjertet will act as an extension of ISIB’s teaching facilities, while other permanent tenants will include the Ikast-Brande Municipality’s Youth and Education department.
“We expect that Hjertet and the surrounding area will benefit the local community just as much as the school, and provide space to play, explore and learn for many different groups,” says ISIB’s chairman and HEARTLAND representative Søren From.
